The mysteries of the baby

Just when you think you’ve got it figured out…guess again!

I took Isaac to the doctor on Monday, suspecting an ear infection. Nothing, his ears looked great. Yep, I was that neurotic mom!

Fast forward to Wednesday and he’s got a fever of 102, moans all night, and this momma is staying home on Thursday. Thursday morning his fever is all but gone and he’s back to himself again. I hope he at least pops out another tooth!

Go figure!

Watching the big kids

We helped celebrate a friends 40th birthday Friday evening and there was a lot of activity for Isaac to watch. He really enjoyed keeping an eye on the big kids. They played bean bag toss, ran around laughing, and went swimming in the pond.

He had a pretty good view of all the action that night.

B1G Conference

I had the privilege of attending the Big Ten Development conference in Chicago with some of my co-workers in conjunction with the Big Ten football kickoff luncheon. It was a great opportunity to learn, meet some colleagues around the Big Ten, and I also spent my FIRST night away from Isaac!

I had never been to the kickoff luncheon and it was quite the experience. All the Big Ten football coaches in one room, the opportunity to hear from each of them…crazy!

Oh, and I did have time to do a little shopping on Michigan Avenue.

Indiana Visit

Isaac and I tagged along with my mom on a trip out to Indiana to visit her uncle and his wife. It was Isaac’s longest car ride, four hours, and he did outstanding!

We hit Friday afternoon Chicago traffic and at one point in the stop-and-go traffic I was so nervous that Isaac would have a meltdown that I commented it was like waiting for the time bomb in the back to go off. Thankfully it never did and we made it to our destination.

Here are the highlights:

  • Isaac met Orville Redenbacher
  • We enjoyed Valpo Velvet ice cream
  • Ken makes a great Old Fashioned
  • I’m in love with Lea’s cookbook collection
  • Isaac was introduced to a ball of yarn

Campfire dinner

My dad and his girlfriend spent a weekend in July camping at our local favorite, Kent Park. We joined them one evening for dinner and Isaac’s first campfire. He was also obsessed with my dad’s hat…couldn’t keep his hands off it!

It turned out to be a beautiful evening!

Sweet corn!

Isaac enjoyed his first taste of sweet corn tonight and seemed to love it!

The first of many summer rites of passage as an Iowa boy.

Monday’s are tough

Isaac and his buddy Graysen needed a quick power nap before lunch today. is the best place for your personal blog or business site.
