Saturday in the kitchen

I spent the first half of my Saturday in the kitchen…and was happy to be there!

I had a hankering for cinnamon rolls and have been itching to try homemade for quite some time. I found a fairly simple recipe in one of my cookbooks and did most of the prep on Friday night. Aside from the time consuming process of making your own dough, it was pretty quick and painless. I baked and frosted them this morning and we had warm rolls with our coffee!

Next up was taking care of this freshly picked bounty from our garden:

That would be 13 cucumbers, three onions, one green pepper, and a bowl full of green beans. Josh has been eager to try making pickles and with this massive amount of cucumbers I thought now was the perfect time. So, I made 12 jars of refrigerator pickles. I used a packaged spice mix, so all I had to do was combine it with water and vinegar and bring to a boil. The hardest part was cutting up all those cucumbers!

They should be ready to eat Sunday or Monday and I’m anxious to see if they will actually be any good. Stay tuned!
