History Lesson in the University of Iowa
This afternoon I had the pleasure of hearing Willard ‘Sandy’ Boyd. He first came to the University in 1654 as a Law Professor from Minnesota and in 1969 he became President of the University. He did leave in 1981, but was drawn back to campus in 1996 to teach law and later returned as interim President in 2002.
He is truly a wealth of knowledge and I could have listened to him speak for days. He’s seen how the University has changed through the years, was commissioned by President Hancher in 1955 to research and propose a foundation to maximize & handle private gifts which is now The University of Iowa Foundation (my current employer), and enriched the University in many areas.
He’s funny, has great stories, and is a true Hawkeye! What a great way to start the Thanksgiving holiday.
