My brother, Nick, and Zoey bonding over Saturday night football. She loves having someone else at the house to pay attention to her.

Iowa vs. Indiana October 31, 2009

Iowa2Holy cow…this game was filled with every emotion. There were more ups and downs in this game than my marriage! :)

I can’t believe that the same person who threw five interceptions, was able to lead the team to victory with 28 points in the fourth quarter.

It was quiet in Kinnick at times, but just like the team, we hung in there with them until the very end.

There’s still three games left, but I’m hoping for a trip to Pasadena with Josh and a few of our friends!

Am I the only one that gets sucked into LMN!? I don’t know what it is, but it could be the cheesiest movie ever and I’ll still watch it all the way through. The worst is when I start crying…don’t think any less of me.

Book Review October 29, 2009

middleA few weeks ago I finished The Middle Place by Kelly Corrigan. To be honest, the only reason I picked it up was because it was on the discount rack at the book store. I was looking for something different and it drew my attention. I enjoyed it much more than I ever thought I would and even cried a couple of times.

It’s a great, true, story that I think every wife/daughter/mother can relate to. She’s the mother of two children, has a great marriage, is close to her family, and is just in a generally good place in her life when she discovers a lump in her breast. While undergoing treatment she learns her father, whom she adores, has bladder cancer. Throughout the book (and her treatment) she reflects back on her childhood, meeting her husband, and other wonderful stories leading up to her life now in what she calls the ‘middle place’…being someone’s child (and still wanting to be nurtured & taken care of) and also being a parent herself.

Just a great story that I think we can all relate to. A very good read.

This week is Spirit Week at work…basically we’re just stretching out Halloween and customes into a whole week. Monday was Ugly Shirt day, Tuesday was high school flashback, and today was our actually Halloween Costume Contest.

I think I’m going to regret sharing this picture of me, but if you can’t laugh at yourself…

Music Library October 27, 2009

itunesOver the last couple of years I have  built up quite an itunes library. It started with a few of my favorite CDs and has grown into quite a mix of songs purchased on itunes…I don’t even want to guess at how many $.99 songs I have purchased.

The problem: my library is on my work computer for a couple of reasons. I listen to the most music at work and our home computer wasn’t the greatest for accumulating music. But I really miss my songs!

Solution: Josh upgraded his computer at work giving us a new (to us) laptop for home use. For a week now I have been dreading the transfer of almost 8G of mostly music and a few TV shows. Tonight I made switch and took the back up CDs and tranferred them over. My itunes library is now in its new home.

So excited to rock out to my itunes library!

Zoey Update October 26, 2009

All the test results have come back normal and the vet can’t figure out what’s wrong…on paper she’s a completely healthy dog. We’re continuing with the antibiotic and she’s eating like a queen…rice, ground beef, and a little bit of canned dog food. At the end of the week we’re supposed to start incorporating dry dog food back into her diet. I don’t think she’s going to want that after two weeks of yumminess!

The waiting game October 23, 2009

Zoey waiting

Josh texted me this picture of Zoey waiting for her test results at the vet office. After a complete physical, sample test (if you know what I mean!), and temperature reading they still don’t know what’s wrong with her. Now we just have to wait for the blood test results to come back. They did start her on antibiotics just in case.

My Very Own… October 23, 2009

French CookingThis afternoon while talking with Mom and Grandma about cooking, Mom gets up and pulls out Grandma’s copy of The Art of Mastering French Cooking by Julia Child…I about fell out of the rocker! I can’t tell you how excited I was when Grandma asked me if I wanted it. I said yes (of course!) and she flips the book open to the cover and written on it is “Christmas 1965, Ruth Klein.” My great-grandmother had given this to her as a gift. What a special book to have and be able to add to my cookbook collection.

I had been searching ebay for my own copy, but am delighted to have the 1965 copy that my grandma has cooked from. Looking through it this afternoon a few of the recipes even have little notations next to them…check marks, good or excellent written next to the recipe. I can’t wait to get home a whip up a Julia Child recipe…butter and all!
