Daily thoughts and comments on our life…boring as it may be!

Back on Campus April 30, 2009

uicapitolI’m heading to the University of Iowa campus and class!  A group of ladies from a Business & Communication class are doing a marketing final project/presentation.  Groups were instructed to pick local businesses in the Iowa City area to research and provide marketing solutions and they picked Bagolitas!

They came by the Studio for a tour and to gather some information a couple of weeks ago and I’m excited to hear their presentation and the ideas they’ve come up with.

Oh, it’s the little things I love! April 28, 2009

zoey-watchMiss Zoey does it the best.  Like each morning Zoey watches me back out of the driveway and then runs to the front window to see me drive by, her ears perked and tail wagging.  Or, how she waits at the bottom of the stairs for me, head rested on the first step patiently waiting for me to walk down.  And, my favorite, after returning home (no matter how long I’ve been gone, 1 hour or all weekend) she could not be more excited to see me.  She bounces up and down trying to like my nose…knowing she isn’t supposed to jump on us.  How’s that for stretching the rules!

Swap Party April 27, 2009

swap-partyI’ve read a couple of articles about clothing/accessory swap parties and I have to admit it sounds kinda fun.  It this tough economy, what a great way to get new (to you!) clothing and accessories.

It sounds really simple, all you do is pull a bunch of your friends together for a fun girls in evening.  Everyone brings clothing and accessories that you’re tired of…even an appetizer and beverage to share.  Then, you spend the evening ’shopping’ among your friends clothing/accessories and head home with a new set of goodies to add to your wardrobe.  Fun, huh!  Now, someone host one so I can come! ;)

PS – I just saw on Oprah today, that Nate Berkus (designer extrodonaire) did this with room redecoration among four neighbors…very cool!

Sand Volleyball April 26, 2009

ist2_481535-volleyball-netI hit the sand this afternoon with a few members from our summer sand volleyball team…the Acers…and a couple other friends.  We had a blast and were able to get in three games before the rain.  The wind was crazy, you never knew where the ball was going to land!  By the last game I was exhausted.

Gotta love the feel of sand between your toes.   I can’t wait for the summer league to start up in a couple of months.

Yardwork, Food & Wine April 26, 2009

Filed under: Family, Josh and Jayne — The Oswald's @ 4:35 pm

Josh and I headed to Urbandale on Saturday to help Mom & Steve with some yardwork.  There was just enough time before the downpour for some chipper/shredding work and mulching/weeding.

That evening we had our Italian themed wine dinner and it turned out great!  We had asparagus, baked brie, veal, salads, Tiramisu, and great wine.  The favorite of the night was the Shrimp Fra Diavolo – Yummy!  Download the recipe and try for yourself, it’s super easy.  The little bit of heat in the dish pairs perfectly with a pinot noir.

I did try out Guitar Hero for the first time ever.  My first try I was booed off stage only 25% of the way through the song, but then after that I was a pro.  Other than my embarassing performances at Guitar Hero and pool, I think the rest of the night went well!

Conversation with Zoey April 24, 2009

Filed under: Josh and Jayne, Zoey — The Oswald's @ 8:11 pm

Jayne: “Zoey, lay down!”

Zoey: Head tilted, ears perked…the play-with-me look.

Jayne: “Zoey, it’s alone time.  Find Mean Kitty or Mr. Lobster.”

Zoey: Ears perked and runs to retrieve Mr. Lobster for Jayne.

Jayne: “Zoey, alone time!  Go see Josh.”

Zoey: Ears perked and runs to Josh.  Stares into Josh’s soul until he plays with me.

I was flipping through the pages of my US Weekly and instantly spotted the coolest thing ever…the Demy Digital Recipe Reader from Amazon.com!  How cool to have all your recipes in one spot, easy to find, and completely splash-proof.  The touch screen, built in timer, measurement converter, and ingredient substitution complete the package.

It’s not available yet, but you can pre-order it for me Josh!

Summer’s in the Air April 24, 2009

With the 80 degree temperatures we’re supposed to have today, I decided to to show some leg in a fun blue dress I snagged at Target yesterday for $9!  I topped it off with my yellow polka dot shoes and I’m ready for the day.

To Pass or Not to Pass April 23, 2009

bus_plaenviewThis morning on my way to work I landed behind one of the city buses that stops at every block.  Annoying, yes, but not big deal right?  Well, I was consumed with to pass or not to pass.  I know you’re not supposed to pass a school bus, but does that same rule apply to cidy buses?  My answer, I became a follower this morning when the car infront of me passed the bus.

Does anyone know, can you pass a city bus?

Found It: GreenLinkz April 21, 2009

Earth Day is tomorrow and this week I’ve been thinking a lot about the ‘green’ things I can do not only on Earth Day, but beyond.  Josh and I recycling, using the re-usable grocery bags, trying to reduce trash, turning down the thermostat when gone, front loading washer & rinse cycle in cold water, and more environmentally friendly cleaning products.

There’s a new social networking site that is helping with that:

greenlinkz12GreenLinkz is a brand new social networking site designed for people interested in sustainable business practices along with those who can provide green business solutions.  Members can create communities, post blogs, notes, create discussion groups/forums, share content, etc.

Their goal for 2009 is to achieve one million members!  BONUS: for each member that joins (free!), GreenLinkz will donate to International Action an organization that provides a child in Haiti safe, clean, disease-free drinking water for 25 years.
