The Oswald Adventures

Daily thoughts and comments on our life…boring as it may be!

The Great Outdoors February 28, 2009

cottontail_iiJosh and I headed over to Indianola this weekend for a quick rabbit hunting trip with Nick and Dad.  The weather was wonderful and we took home eight rabbits (3 by Josh!)…yummy!

We decided to take Highway 92 back to Tiffin rather than the interstate because of the beautiful weather…it proved to be a great decision!  A few miles east of Oskaloosa, on the Muskunky Marsh, we spotted at least 15 bald eagles!  Wow!!!  We pulled over, snapped a couple of pictures and were able to watch them for about 10 minutes.

Thursday Evening Concert February 27, 2009

Filed under: Josh and Jayne — The Oswald's @ 9:14 am

music-notes1Last night Josh and I attended a jazz band concert…actually it was four great bands rolled into one evening.  Our good friend MD is a middle school band director in one of the local school districts and we jumped at the opportunity to see him in action…it’s been a while since we’ve gone to a concert.  His group of students was first up and did a great job, everyone looked like they were having so much fun on stage.  We were also able to see our other friend JS and his jazz ensamble play and they did a fantastic job too.

It was a fun night for us.

American Idol February 26, 2009

american-idol-logoI missed the first round of 12 last week, so I wasn’t about to miss last night.  My stand out favorites from last night were, in no particular order:

Adam Lambert, Allison Iraheta, and Kris Allen

I kinda like how they switched things up this year and split the top 36 into three groups.  It really shows the importance of picking the right song.

I’m excited to see the top 12, pick my favorites, and see what happens.

My Soap Box – read with caution February 25, 2009

soapI’m going to stand on my soap box for just a minute…I’ve been getting so frustrated lately between the Octo-mom, bailing out those who are foreclosing on homes, and all the economic talk.

Where’s the personal responsibility and common sense?  Why is it always someone elses fault or responsibility to fix; if you can’t afford it, don’t buy it.  I’ll  be the first to admit, I’ve made my share of mistakes, but I made my bed and take on that responsibility.  And in the end, I’ll be a better person for treading through the tough times and appreciate the things I have more.

The American Dream isn’t about holding out your hand and waiting for someone to give it to you.  It’s about getting off the couch, working hard, and getting it yourself.

Love of Office Supplies February 25, 2009

file-foldersIf you know me well, you know that  I have a love – or obsession – of office supplies.  It’s not just any old office supplies, but ‘cool,’ unusual, or unique items.  My favorite store is seejanework.com.  I love fun/unique file folders, the notebooks (b/c the paper is nice), notepads…those are probably my favorites.

One of my favorites are these school notes, they remind me of when I was in school and my mom used to write notes.  She found this ’special’ school note paper at the local teacher supply store and we loved them so much she saved an original and photo copied them whenever we were running low.

Just a simple and fun way to add a little excitment to your file cabinet or next meeting!

Cadbury Eggs February 24, 2009

cadbury_eggs_whiteMy favorite part about spring/Easter is Cadbury and those scrum-delicious eggs!  I can’t get enough of them.

Usually my favorite candy is peanut M&M’s, but when those yummy eggs come out,  they move to the top of the list.

My Oscar Pick February 23, 2009

While I miss the red carpet events, I did see the entire Academy Awards last night.  My pick for best dressed is Jennifer Aniston.  I just love her simplicity and ease, yet elegant look.  She didn’t look over done or flashy.

I also like the bold jewelry Angelina Jolie was wearing (a great way to dress up a basic black dress…hmmm) and Meryl Streep looked so elegant.

Another Use: Toothpaste February 22, 2009

Toothpaste isn’t just for clean teeth anymore…try it as a blemish reducer/remover!  Ever gotten one of those big zits, that hurts before you see it?  I just got one late this week, so on Saturday night I got my tube of toothpaste out before bed and put a dab right on that zit.  I woke up this morning and it was at least half the size it was yesterday.

I’ve been doing this for a couple of years now and it really works!  Not only does it reduce the size, but the redness as well.  See for yourself!

Weekend Art Project February 22, 2009

I have been looking for something to put above the bed for about a month now and was inspired by my friend Cynthia to make my own after she did just that in her own bedroom.

Don’t look too close, the painting isn’t perfect, but I think it looks pretty good for my first.  Thanks Cynthia!

I’m Funny…maybe?! February 21, 2009

dick-and-janeThe other night while reading, Josh asked me what my favorite book was.  I pondered for a moment and then said, “Fun with Dick and Jane.”

I laughed really hard…I don’t think Josh thought it was funny.
