New Bed…Check! January 30, 2009

Filed under: Josh and Jayne — The Oswald's @ 8:42 am

Yeah, I finally got to sleep in my new bed last night.  Wish I could say I got a good nights sleep…stupid cold!  The bed is super comfortable and I would definitely recommend Memory Foam to everyone!  Here’s a look at the complete package.  Josh surprised me yesterday afternoon by making the whole bed (duvet and all!) so I wouldn’t have to worry about it…XOXO honey!  You can’t really tell from the picture put it’s a black sleigh bed.

Now that the new bed is in position, I think it’s time for new nightstands (lamps too!).  I don’t want anything too matchy, matchy so I’m thinking mirrors/metal/glass like this hot little number from Pottery Barn would be great…it’s a pipe dream though at $400 a pop and Josh doesn’t like it.   I’m sure I can find a cheaper version, but need something ‘manly’ for Josh.

So, now I need help.  Do I go with the mirror/metal/glass for myself and get Josh something more substantial in the black wood?  Do I stick with black wood and go for a different shape/look than the bed, do I try a complete contrast and go white?

Crazy Week January 29, 2009

Filed under: Josh and Jayne — The Oswald's @ 9:06 am

crazyJosh and I are right in the middle of one of the busiest weeks we’ve had in a long time.  He’s swamped at work, keeping at least four appointments a day.  I’m swamped at work with the Dance Marathon Sale and preparing for a Consultant leadership retreat this weekend.  Plus, we are trying to coordinate bed set up (last night) and mattress delivery (today!).  Throw in Miss Zoey and it’s one crazy week.

Well, Wednesday morning put the crazy factor up one notch.  At 6am as we walked out the house, the Honda (aka Green Menace) decided not to work.  In the dark, we pushed the Menace to the end of the driveway so Josh could get my car out, I loaded my stuff into the truck and we headed off to work.  No time to figure out the Menace today…very thankful to have the third vehicle.

Fast forward through the busy day.  Josh picks up our bed and magically gets the Menace started and it runs for 10 minutes while we unload the bed.

Fast forward through bed fiasco to this morning (Thursday).  The Green Menace starts and we head to work.  I’m almost out of Tiffin and I get the phone call…Menace has died in the Casey’s parking lot.  Pick Josh up and take back to the house to pick up truck.  De ja vu, we say good bye and head off to work.

Now I’m just waiting for two phone call: mattress delivery and tow truck!

Oh, and did I mention I’m sick and haven’t been sleeping well?!  Can’t imagine the level on the crazy scale if a baby was involved!

Ice Fog January 28, 2009

ice-fogThat’s all I heard on the drive to work this morning, ice fog.  I never knew such a thing existed.  Wish I would have had my camera, because it was kinda pretty.  I borrowed this picture from Google Images.

So, I went to my favorite search engine, Google, and learned there are about 12 different kinds of fog.  Ice fog is  where the water droplets freeze mid-air into ice crystals.  It’s common near the Arctic and Antarctic.  Fun!

UI Dance Marathon January 27, 2009

dm-08It’s that time of year again…The University of Iowa Dance Marathon, a student run year long philanthropy, is only 10 short days away from their 24 hour dance event (Feb. 6 & 7)to raise money for the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital.  I love the energy and excitement this event creates and miss being  on campus during this time of year.

Well, I’m now part of the energy and excitement!  For the past couple of years Bagolitas has held two day shopping extravaganzas at the University Hospital to help raise money for Dance Marathon and the Children’s Hospital.  To date, we have raised over $11,000!

Well, this morning I loaded my car with bins of bags and headed over to the hospital for our two day sale.  If you have a chance, I encourage you to stop by the John Pappajohn Pavillion lobby and purchase a bag (or three!) for this great cause.  20% of the proceeds of this two day sale go to the UI Dance Marathon.

At the core of Bagolitas’ beliefs is our desire to give back to local and national charities and supporting our local Children’s Hospital through Dance Marathon is just one way we are able to give back.

The Faces of Zoey January 25, 2009

Neglected dog?  I think not, but you be the judge…zoey_play

You would think from this picture that we never play with her.

The way her eyes are ‘bugged’ out, you would think she hadn’t eaten in months.  Good think Josh gave her the last of his leftovers!

Recessionista? January 25, 2009

Maybe…

Definition: Someone who seeks out fashionable and low-cost items.  Recessionistas don’t let the economy stand in the way of fashionable dressing.  They just look for new (lower cost) ways of dressing stylishly.

jan25-0061Not sure if I’m a true recessionista because I’m always on the hunt for a bargain to try and stretch my clothes budget, not matter the economic climate.

This weekend I hit the jackpot on three jackets.  The first one I found at Target for $15.  It’s a long cream/tan/gold woven coat (not pictured).  The other two I happened upon while Josh and I were killing time at a local consignment store.  The first is a Steve Madden (on the left) cordarory jacket with furriness that I got for $13 and the second is a JCrew blazer (right) I got for $7!

Maybe I’m not a true recessionista, but I do enjoy a great bargain hunt.

Update: Bed January 24, 2009

Filed under: Josh and Jayne — The Oswald's @ 12:26 pm

We pulled the ‘trigger’ and purchased a Simmons Beautyrest with Memory Foam last night.  AND this morning we purchased a new bed (head/foot board) as well.  If all goes according to plan (fingers crossed!), we’ll be sleeping in our new bed Thursday night!  I’m very much looking forward to to good nights sleep…Yeah!  Can’t wait to post pictures.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions and comments, all very helpful.

New Mattress January 23, 2009

Filed under: Josh and Jayne — The Oswald's @ 8:43 am

mattresses1The Oswald’s are on the hunt for a new mattress and it’s a little overwhelming.  Serta, Sealy, pillowtop, firm, springfree, memory foam, sleep number, posturepedic, plush, ultra plush, etc, etc, etc.  All these words are unfamiliar in my vocabulary.  I just want a bed that doesn’t make my back hurt and doesn’t cost $3000.  And don’t try and offer me a deal on the floor model.  Who wants a floor model bed anyway…gross!  How many people have jumped, laid, and rolled around on those display beds?

I know which ones I don’t want, but how do I tell if it’s the mattress for me by laying on it for all of 2 minutes?  It would be helpful if I could take my current bed with so I can compare.  Oh, and Josh says it’s my ‘deal’ so he’s really no help at all except when it comes to price…I get the side to side head shake.

Oh wise blog readers, any tips for purchasing a mattress?
