Daily thoughts and comments on our life…boring as it may be!

Back to Reality June 30, 2008

Reluctantly I’m back to life after a few days of relaxation and fun.  The trip was good and the wine was great!  More details on the trip to come after I catch up on the emails.

San Francisco from Alcatraz Island…not fog, actually smoke from the forest fires.

Self portrait with my brother…Sonoma Valley in the background.  Kinda nice to wake up to that view in the morning!

California or Bust! June 23, 2008

We are off early Wednesday morning for California!  I am so excited for a little time away to relax, de-compress, and spend time with Josh.  And, even better, the weather is going to be perfect.  The first half of the trip is Napa/Sonoma touring and tasting wine and then we are spending the weekend in San Francisco.   The thing I hate most about travel is packing and when traveling with my step-dad, we carry-on our luggage, which makes packing that much more stressful.  So last night I started laying out my clothes, trying outfits on, figuring out which shoes (3 pair max) to take, and what to wear on the plane.  Ugh, Ugh, Ugh!  Look for details and pictures of our trip, hopefully Monday, but probably Tuesday.  Let’s just pray there aren’t any airport hiccups.

New Blinds June 22, 2008

Finally, after 4 years of being an open book to the City of Tiffin, Josh installed blinds on our front windows.  What a huge difference a few wooden slats make.  No more glare on the TV, the temperature stays comfortable all the time, and the privacy…ahhh, the privacy!

Poor Zoey! June 22, 2008

Saturday was a rough day for Miss Zoey.  We came down in the morning and she was nursing her right front paw…she had split her dewclaw (on the inside of her front leg) and it was swollen and infected.  Most active and hunting dogs have them removed when they are puppies to avoid getting them caught and torn.

I had the pleasure of taking her to the vet and was definitely not prepared for what was about to take place.  After hoisting all 60lbs of her onto the table and numbing the area, the vet clipped the nail off!  4-5 rather loud yelps later, she was wrapped up and ready to go.  I walked out the door with an antibiotic, pain medicine, and an empty pocketbook.

She was definitely milking the attention to the fulliest extent.  The pain pill was wonderful, she slept most of the day and when she wasn’t sleeping she was content just laying around.  But, at 10pm that night, as we walked in the door, we paid for the benefits of the pain pill with a very nasty side affect.  Wow, unbelieveably disgusting and the house was permiated…she won’t be getting another pain pill.  Poor Miss Zoey!  She’ll be back to normal by the end of the week.

Office Olympics June 20, 2008

Filed under: Jayne, Uncategorized — The Oswald's @ 12:48 pm

June 22 is Bagolitas 3rd birthday and to kick off birthday week, I created the 1st Bagolitas Olympiad.  Each day this week we have been ‘competing’ in different events during the lunch hour: Juggernaut, bag cutting, rubberband archery, internet order packaging, humerous numerous.  I even created a scoring system based on office olympics information found during my internet search for game ideas.  There is also fabulous prizes for each day’s first, second, and third place winners.  The grand prize winner will be announced at our next office party.

I highly recommend office olympics for anyone looking for a great team building activity, a fun way to break up the day, or just an opportunity to get a little silly in the office.  Below is a picture from Juggernaut…I was not very good.

The Gender Debate June 17, 2008

While doing the garage sale thing on Saturday, my friend K mentioned that she thought letter, numbers, and shapes (among other things I’m sure) can be labeled male or female.  She continued by giving examples, such as O is female, A is female, B is male, a square is male, and so on.  I don’t get it, can’t see it at all, and therefore think it’s ridiculous.  The only example that I remotely grasp is O (female).  It makes sense to me; females are soft and rounded, not a harsh square male, logical!  Numbers perplex me even more…are there more of you out there who genderize?  What’s the logic behind the madness?  Inquiring minds want to know!

Holy Yellow, those are some bright chairs!  I added my garage sale chairs to the deck last night and they fit perfect and are quite the pop of color.

Also, our Memorial Weekend landscaping project appears to have been successful.  Nothing has died and the hydrangea bushes are blooming!

Garage Sale Find June 16, 2008

North Liberty held it’s annual city wide garage sale on Saturday, so I tagged along with my friend K to see if I could find any bargains.  K is 31 weeks pregnant and was on the lookout for some baby gear and I was just looking.  I managed to find the coolest chairs ever, 2 metal deck chairs for $10!  They had a little rust on them, but nothing that a little spray paint wouldn’t fix.

I spent Sunday afternoon spray painting my new chairs a bright, sunny yellow.  I had intended on doing a before and after shot of the chairs to share with everyone, but realized halfway through the first coat that I hadn’t taken a before, so I scrambled for the camera and snapped a picture of what little remained of the original chair color and condition.  I will try and get a picture of them in there final resting place on our back deck this afternoon.
